Environmental protection and conservation: the "House of Water" you can

When I drive I used to listen the radio. This morning, Fabio Volo, in his daily program, commented on the news on BBC World in the TG that, and we knew it already, Italy is the country with the highest consumption of bottled water per capita . Apart from the considerable expense that this entails for citizens, not underestimate the amount of plastic bottles that go in the trash daily. Many are recycled, but many, perhaps most, end up in landfills or incinerators. Guest Telephone flight program was a director of a limited company with public capital in the Milan area, he has presented the idea "House of Water" . What is this project? You know all those representatives who ultimately would like to install those scrubbers under our sinks to give us the opportunity to drink the water that flows from the tap at home? Well, that's the concept, carried out from the houses in the street. A small building has inside all equipment for water purification, outside faucets are available for the procurement of citizenship.
Water for all, natural and fresh, chilled and at room temperature, and most important thing, for free!
which adopted the system of collection "Porta a Porta" in an efficient recycling rates will have some arriving even 80% of total waste products is essential, however, also reduce drastically the amount of waste we all produce every day, it would not hurt to contribute to reducing the amount of waste in our cities by installing such facilities.

Less plastic in the world, less money out of our pockets.

Environmental disasters, the destruction did not end

In these rainy days, not only water but also of controversy and battles over what should be our future waste, strikes a real " storm. " I mean the news of the closure of the incinerator in Terni.
My invitation is only to read the news reported by newspapers:

Ansa
Republic
Corriere della Sera
and more generally in Google News

So there is no need to help you to express your opinion, are able on their own, it is also true that we are talking of an old plant of 32 years, surely the current technologies are better, but there is evidence that such facilities are always a risk. And since then the citizens are always the last to know things and have the means to control the controllers ....

The workers of the factory were invited to submit to an investigation doctors, it seems that even several times to the factory have passed the radioactive material. It seems that the materials were burned in ovens are not allowed and that the wastewater contained pollutant concentrations beyond all limits and therefore diluted. Well it seems that the environmental disaster is complete in all respects, including the green Umbria could not escape to human.

Waste: there are alternatives, just love her and look

The news, as they say, falls to the bean, the carry-over as it was published in the press section of the CNR. I personally was not aware of this project, I'd love to hear other opinions. But if things are as reported, without unpleasant surprises, mi sembrerebbe il minimo mettere in dubbio l'uso degli inceneritori ...

In questa direzione va Thor, un sistema sviluppato dal Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche insieme alla Società ASSING SpA Rome, which allows you to recover and refine all the waste and turn them into materials for reuse and the high calorific fuel without going through the bins separate waste collection.

A step beyond the simple collection and incineration, by which waste becomes a resource and it will cost much less than that of an incinerator. Thor (Total house waste recycling - total recycling of household waste) is a technology designed and developed entirely in Italy joint research by public and private, which is based on a mechanical refining process (mechano-processing) of waste materials, which are treated to separate all the components useful substances harmful or useless.

As a 'mill' new generation, the system reduces waste Thor to microscopic size, less than ten thousandths of a millimeter. The result of the entire process is a homogeneous material, purified by the parties and the harmful heat content, can be used as fuel and comparable to a good quality coal.

"A fuel can be used with any type of thermal system," said Paolo Plescia, dell'Ismn-CNR researcher and inventor of Thor, "including engines running on biodiesel, steam boilers, central heating systems and installations WTE of biomass. In fact, the chemical characteristics of the product that is generated by refining the mechanics of solid urban waste, once removed polluting components are quite similar to those of biomass, but compared to these and are poor in sulfur-free hydrocarbons. E 'can use the product either as pellets or solid fuel or oil to produce bio-diesel through the' pyrolysis'. The system is completely autonomous: it consumes the energy that produces and sells the rest outside. THOR

In quest’ultimo caso, the productivity of a plant can climb aboard than ten tons per hour and the fuel obtained from treatment, made from a liquid 'pyrolysis', can be used directly by the vessel or resold outside.

"A system of mechanically-refining of medium-small size by 20 000 tonnes of waste a year has cost about 40 euro per tonne of material," says Paolo Plescia. "For the same amount, would require a landfill and an incinerator at least 100 250 euro. These costs must be added those of management, and in particular the costs related to the disposal of waste to incinerators and ash, or the management of odors and landfill gas, both non-existent in Thor. As for heat, waste containing waste paper produces 2,500 kilocalories per kilogram, while after mechanical refining exceeds 5,300 kilocalories.

A concrete example of its possibilities? "An area of \u200b\u200b5000 urban population produces about 50 tons per day of solid waste," reports the researcher. "With these Thor can get a daily average of 30 tons of fuel, 3 tons of glass, 2 tons of ferrous and non ferrous metals and a tonne of aggregates, which is also included in the chlorine-rich fraction of the waste that is separately, to avoid contaminating the fuel.
